My Story

My story of working with people started a very long time ago! I began training in martial arts at the age of 7 and was offered the opportunity to instruct at my club at the age of 15. Whilst I did not quite realise the impact my martial arts would have on my life, I did very quickly find that working and helping other people is what I really loved to do.

I did voluntary work in Sri Lanka after the Asian Tsunami in 2006 for 6 months, teaching martial arts in a local village. The village had been significantly hit by the disaster and was in desperate need of help to boost happiness and confidence to bring back balance to the lives of all of the local people. I was shocked to see the impact that martial arts had on achieving these goals. It was from here that I realised that I wanted to open up my own martial arts club's, which I did in 2009. You can read more about my experiences in Sri Lanka here and find out more information about my martial arts club's here.

It was in Sri Lanka that I had regular massage in order to treat hamstring, lower back and hip issues and I was inspired by how quickly the regular treatments affected the health of these chronic problem areas. Doctors and physiotherapists were unsure of how to correct my injuries, however a massage therapist in Sri Lanka helped me to see significant improvement in just a period of months.

After more than 25 years of experience in sport (partaking and coaching), my knowledge of the complexities of the human body has grown exponentially. Incidentally, my own injuries (whilst painful and often debilitating) only furthered my desire to find out ways to remedy the problem areas of others. After many years witnessing the difficulty many people have suffered with injury and ill-health, I decided to open The Silva Balance Academy, with the hope in helping as many people as possible who suffer from chronic or acute health issues.

I have been giving treatment in the form of massage therapy to people for a number of years and I myself have at least 2 massages a month, to keep my health in check and improve the quality of my life. I am now in less pain, more mobile and much happier! I have also always had a very strong interest in nutrition since a very young age and see this (along with regular exercise, massage therapy and meditation) as the key to maintaining balanced well-being and happiness.
